Hello, my name is Jessica and I am Surface Pattern Designer based near Edinburgh, Scotland.

I started my journey into surface pattern design because of my love of colour and pattern, even as a child I adored bright coloured clothes and was often seen in clashing patterns! I love to be surrounded by bold colours and believe that it can lift your spirit and brighten your mood.

I always enjoyed drawing and sewing and knew I wanted to do something creative as a career. After school, I completed an HND in Public Art at Falkirk College. As part of the course, I completed a 6 week module in textile design, and it was a revelation to discover the world of surface pattern design! I was keen to learn more, so I applied to study Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, graduating with a BA (Hons). I specialised in print design and fell in love with screen printing.

Since graduating, I have moved into digital design and this has opened up a whole new world of colour and pattern, allowing me to further develop my style. I decided to set up my own surface design business creating patterns for wallpaper, fabrics and home accessories. To grow and develop my business, I completed the MIID Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design Program which has allowed me to become immersed in the Surface Pattern Design community and take my business in new directions.

I am constantly inspired by the countryside and can often be found in amongst the long grass, attempting to capture pictures of flowers, birds or insects for my latest design idea. I seek every opportunity to travel, and draw inspiration from different cultures and architecture to incorporate into my designs. My designs are developed from my drawings and are bold and colourful as I am naturally drawn to deep rich colours.
